AI for WordPress: Learn What to Do, How to Connect and How to Stay in Control

AI can help you understand, improve and operate a WordPress site, but “using AI with WordPress” can mean very different things. An assistant can analyze public pages, inspect authenticated WordPress data, prepare drafts, update approved content or perform a narrow technical operation. Each step requires a different connection, a different level of trust and a different verification method.

This hub organizes the subject around one simple progression: observe, connect, act and control. Start with the result you want, not with the tool you heard about. Then decide whether the assistant actually needs access to WordPress and grant only the capability required for that task.

Start with what you want to accomplish

You do not need to understand APIs or MCP before asking a useful question. Begin with a concrete objective: inventory your content, find outdated posts, review SEO titles, prepare a draft, inspect internal links or identify UX problems. The task pages in this hub explain what information is needed, whether a connection is required and how to verify the result.

Understand the difference between analysis and access

Giving an assistant a public URL is not the same as connecting it to WordPress. Public analysis is useful for visible copy, navigation and rendered pages. Authenticated access becomes relevant when the assistant must inspect drafts, statuses, taxonomies, metadata or other internal records. Action requires another decision: whether the identity may create, edit or publish anything.

Connect Claude Code, Codex or another compatible client

Connection guides describe the layers separately: the AI client, the connector or MCP server, WordPress authentication, the WordPress identity and the task permissions. A successful connection does not prove that every action exists, and a tool name does not prove that the installed WordPress configuration permits it. Compatibility statements must be tied to tested versions and artifacts.

Keep the permission boundary visible

The safest workflow is not the one with the longest prompt. It is the one in which the assistant cannot exceed the intended action. A Read Only identity should fail when it attempts to write. A Draft identity should leave public content untouched. A Content Editor workflow should keep publication separate unless publication is explicitly approved.

Use PAGUP Agent Control when the task enters WordPress

Get structured site information and inspect selected published pages after connecting. No temporary task is needed for this public reading. You can also browse public pages without the plugin; Agent Control adds structured access and a path toward authorized WordPress work.

Authorize a draft task and select any reference content. The assistant can create and revise drafts created by that task. Existing references remain read-only, even when a reference is itself a draft. Review the result in WordPress.

With Solo, Pro or Agency, authorize a proposal task for selected content and fields. Examine the complete comparison in WordPress and select the proposals you approve. Approval is tied to that object, its fields and current content; a changed source or task can invalidate it. Approving a content change does not authorize publication. Solo, Pro or Agency must also have a publication task that covers the still-valid approval. Check the published result yourself.
